OVERDRAFT OPT-IN

IMPORTANT NOTICE Overdraft Protection Change Effective 7/1/2010 and 8/15/2010.

The federal government issued changes to Regulation E affecting overdraft protection for ATM and one-time debit card purchases. Currently - for most Timberland Federal Credit Union members - if an account does not have sufficient funds to cover an ATM or one-time debit card transaction, the credit union covers the insufficient amount (up to $300) for a $28 fee per transaction.

Beginning August 15, 2010, for accounts opened prior to July 1, 2010, we will not be able to continue this practice unless we receive your authorization instructing us to do so. If you choose not to Opt-In, such transactions for which sufficient funds do not exist in your account will be declined at the Point-Of-Sale. This does not affect checks drawn on your account or recurring payments using your debit card.

To Opt-In you can contact the credit union at 800-477-3889, stop in any branch office, or download, complete and return an opt-in form to the credit union. To download a form, please click here.

Timberland FCU Teaches Financial Literacy

Timberland FCU strives to educate the community on the importance of Financial Literacy. Each year the credit union goes to area schools to touch on a variety of topics to students. This year Timberland FCU visited 3 different schools and spoke to over 750 students.

Deb Fye, the Family and Consumer Science instructor at the DuBois Area High School, has been inviting Timberland FCU to come into her classes for the past few years. Credit basics, checking account basics, and identity theft prevention are among the usual topics that are covered.

Timberland FCU also visited the Freshmen and Sophomore classes at Brookville Area High School. They were given a presentation on the importance of saving early and how to protect themselves against identity theft.

Timberland FCU assisted the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center with their annual NOCTI certification tests and later returned to discuss finance basics to Mr. Rodney Thompson's marketing class.

Timberland FCU would like to acknowledge area schools for supporting financial education and literacy. If you would like to have Timberland FCU come into your classroom or organization to speak on financial literacy, please contact Jordan Lydick at the credit union.
